School History

The school is set on a large spacious site within its own grounds after being opened in 1961, and today, we continue to serve the local Catholic population within the recently formed Parish of the Holy Redeemer. This incorporates Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Slaithwaite. The school has strong links to the Parish and has played an important part in the history of the local Catholic community within Sheepridge. On 1stMarch 2008 the school federated with St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Birkby under one Governing Body with one Headteacher. Within the community many of our parents who were educated in Our Lady’s now have their children educated in our school and parents are most welcome to come and assist in school.

Equally, the school has strong links with All Saints Catholic College where a majority of our Year 6 children move on to for their Catholic Secondary Education.

Throughout the school year the governors play an active role attending meetings, liturgies, Lenten and Advent assemblies when available. Equally, our Chair of Governors, Father Smith visits the school to meet the children and staff. In realising the mission of the school we also recognise the importance of sharing its Catholicity and by doing so, support Catholic Care and CAFOD.
