English
Our text for this term will be the book ‘Lost and Found’ about a boy who finds a penguin and try’s to return him to his home. The children will retell the story in their own words, talk about the characters and act out the story in our small world area and role play area.
We will have an ice fishing pond where the children will ‘catch ’fish with their magnetic rods. The children will be challenged to read and recognize the letter sounds and simple words on the fish and to write them on whiteboards.
Phonics
We use a combination of Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds to teach Phonics. The children in Reception have been learning to read simple words and captions by blending the phonemes in a word together. The children are also beginning to write simple words by segmenting the phonemes in a word. The children are also working hard to form their letters correctly.
Below are some games that will help to develop your childs confidence with reading.
