Class Teacher - Miss Hughes

Teaching Assistant - Miss Walczak and Miss Boss

Every term Year 1 will focus their work on a chosen topic.
Please see our long term map and termly newsletters below.

Please follow the links below to see some of the things we have been doing this year:

English Maths Science Religious Education Physical Education

This month we celebrate the importance of Black History. In Year 1 the children have learnt all about Bob Marley, a well-known, inspirational musicianist and Idris Elba, a famous actor and role model. As part of Black History Month, the children have had the opportunity to explore many multi-cultural books. Alongside this, the children have enjoyed creating carnival headresses to be a part of the black history carnival (which due to the unforeseen circumstances of Covid-19, could not go ahead).

Physical Education

The children have a regular PE lesson every Monday and Thursday. Currently, your child will need to wear their PE kit to school on a Monday ONLY. Please ensure earings are not be worn on PE days for the safety of both your children and ‚Äčthe others. If they could bring a bottle of water this will help to keep them hydrated.

Book swap

Books will be swapped in school on a Tuesday and Friday. When they are changed they will recieve up to two books as well as a Twinkl booklet to accompany the sounds or phase they have been learning.
Please try and read with your children every day and ask them questions to support their comprehension and understanding of the book. Miss Hughes will support this by including a link to the VIPERS scheme we use in school. On there, you will find various prompts to support with your questioning.

Please ensure that your child's diary is signed once you have read with them. If there is no record of this, your child's book can not be swapped. Thank you for your understanding.

Your child will recieve homework every Friday and it is due back into school on Thursday the following week. Homework is based on what we are learning in school. If you could support your child with their homework this will support their learning in and out of school.  Miss Hughes has included a handwriting RWI rhyme sheet to support number formation and learning of sounds. If your child can continue to practise writing their letters and numbers at home, this will be invaluable to their education. Thank you.
