Religious Education is a big part of our curriculum and school day and gives us the chance to think about and reflect on the world around us. Each morning we share Collective Worship together using a story from the world or prayer as our focus of discussion and reflection.

We explore Religion through a variety of ways using stories, drama and music to develop our understanding and knowledge

Families and Celebrations

This half term were are learning all about Families and Celebrations. We have had the opportunity to discuss the importance of families and learn about different ones we belong to. It has been lovely hearing all about what makes our families special and unique. We all know that we belong to the Church's Family and that God is our Father in Heaven, making us all part of one big special family.

We are also having the opportunity to explore celebrations of the Church and have had great fun acting out some of these. We have discussed Baptisms and Wedding, exploring the meaning and importance of them.

Candlemas

Year 1 listened to the story of The Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. We know that Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple as they wanted to thank God for giving them such a special baby. When then got to the temple an old man called Simeon was there and he was very happy to see the baby Jesus as he knew that God had kept his promise and sent a new king to watch over everyone. There was also an old lady called Anna who was very well known in the temple. As soon as she saw the baby Jesus she also knew that he was very special and began telling everyone immediately.  We know that Candlemas is celebrated in Church on the 2nd of February.

Pancake Day

Year 1 learnt all about Shrove Tuesday which is also known as Pancake Day. We know that it is the day before Ash Wednesday when Lent begins and was traditionally a day of fun and feasting before the fasting required during the 40 days of Lent. We had lots of fun talking about our favourite pancake toppings, designing our very own pancakes and even eating some. A fun filled pancake day was had by all!
