Throughout Year 6 we will be practising writing in a range of genres.
This term we will be focusing on descriptive settings, diary entries, recounts and persuasive writing. This half term we will be working hard to vary our sentence openers, develop our choice of vocabulary and use a variety of advanced types of punctuation.
It can be difficult to remember all the neessary features needed for different genres, so here is a Writing genre checklist to help!
Reading
Our Power of Reading text for the Spring term will be 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne. We will be learning about Bruno, a 9 year old boy, growing up in Berlin during World War II.
We will be doing many exciting things that are linked to our texts. Such as- Writing, drama, artwork and dance.
We encourage the children to read a wide variety of genres. We complete reading journal activities for every book we read. These tasks help us to develop our understanding of the text.
