Hello Year 5,

I hope you are all well. I am still thinking about you all and I am looking forward to seeing you all when we can go back to school.

As I am sure you already know, this week is a very special week in our calendar as it is Holy Week. Every day I will add an extra piece of R.E work that you can do at home. Make sure you spend the most time on this and take some time to pray and give thanks.

Miss Douglass x

Butterfly update 2

A further update on our caterpillars... Today I have moved them into their butterfly garden. When I moved them some of the chrysalides were wiggling and shaking dramatically. I thought that they were about to emerge but this unusual wiggling is actually a perfectly normaly response in the chrysalis community. In fact, this behaviour is actually a natural defence mechanism! Chrysalides wiggle and shake when they are distrubed in an effort to frighten potential predators. They need calm and quiet surrounding so they can metamorphose into beautiful butterflies! One of our butterflies unfortunately didn't make it to the top but not to worry! I scooped the chrysalis with a plastic spoon and put it on the floor of the habitat, close to an inside wall. When the butterfly emerges it will instrinctively climb up the wall of the habitat, and then hang there to stretch and pump fluid to its wings to straighten them.
