Reading with your child at home
At Our Lady of Lourdes we know how important it is for children to read. It opens up a child’s imagination, allowing them to learn new vocabulary that they can then implement in their writing across all curriculum areas.
In school we do a lot to encourage reading:
- All our classrooms have dedicated Reading Corners with a range of literature for children to browse at their leisure.
- All children take two books home from our school library on a weekly basis to share with their families.
- We open our library to our families two evenings a week.
- Some classes have volunteers who come in to do one to one reading.
- We run a book fair every year and run competitions to encourage reading and projects the children can complete in their own time based on their favourite books.
- We run a Reading Camp every half term to reward pupils for good reading.
